I thought about calling this post The Dark Side, but that wouldn’t be fair. The north end of the plot is getting ready for winter and won’t have any more work to do until early spring. As a result of covering this quarter with black plastic, the soil will stay soft, weeds will not grow, and the bed will be warm and ready to plant early in the spring.

The northwest quarter of the plot contains four butternut squash that I am patiently leaving on the vine until the last possible minute. I don’t think they’re going to get any bigger, but they might get a little riper.

The cycle of nature in a garden is fascinating.
