This little greenhouse, placed horizontally, was just the thing to help the butternut squash get going. They quickly grew to touch both sides. Fortunately, the weather warmed up and we could put the greenhouse right way up for some other use.
I considered using it for a cucumber vine (too big), a tomato plant ( too messy) or a Hungarian pepper plant (just right). Actually, I doubt if the pepper plant will ever fill that space, but I hope it will thrive and give us a nice crop all the same. Jim can’t eat them, but I love sweet banana peppers sliced and fried with eggs for breakfast.
It’s a bit on the scrawny side. It was the last banana pepper plant at the garden centre.
It’s the rhubarb that’s caught my attention this morning. That is some serious plant! He means business growing up so tall, sturdy and proud. A plant with attitude. And that’s not boerekool on the other side of the pepper’s house, is it?
Yes, that’s boerekool, and it’s doing great. I just hope it won’t go to seed before fall. I’m not sure what to expect since the plants started life on our patio late last summer but did poorly because of the north exposure. They took once they were transplanted to the garden plot this spring.
