From now on, I will only grow Cylindra beets. I am very impressed with their production. In exactly the same amount of space as Red Ace, they produce almost three times as much root, and more greens as well. That’s a much better use of precious garden area.

One thing that I didn’t expect to see was three inches of root above ground level. Odd. I wonder if they always grow that way.

I planted another four squares of beet seeds in mid-July, but that was before the hot weather started, and so far there’s been no sign of them planning to sprout. Too bad. But I do understand. I’m not a fan of hot weather either.
