So far my methods for trying to grow baby greens have not been very successful.
This year I planted two of the sixteen squares in the beet box with a mesclun seed mix. It’s not that the baby greens didn’t grow. They did very well. Failure had more to do with the fact that we were producing the most amazing spinach at that time, and the lettuce paled in comparison, so we … um … sort of neglected it.
The lettuce plants were growing fast, a little crowded but still nice and tender. That’s exactly what the slugs thought. Our tiny salad patch was completely decimated by slugs of all sizes having a glorious greens-fest.
This is a photo of Jim sending the erstwhile mesclun on its way to the compost pile.
